Now, you longtime subscribers may think to yourselves, “I seem to recall that the NIV® used to be available on Bible.is,” and you’d be right—the New International Version®, Biblica, and Faith Comes By Hearing have a rich history!
A few years ago—or really, a lot of years ago—in 1973, the NIV® was first published by the International Bible Society (now Biblica). Faith Comes By Hearing (then named Hosanna) produced the first NIV® recording in 1985 and began offering it to thousands of church congregations. As the ministry grew in vision and focus, we decided to record the NIV® as a multi-voice audio drama—our very first—and subsequently released the New Testament in 1989, followed by the Old Testament in the early 1990s.
When people of other cultures heard the rich tapestry of the multi-voice dramatization, they absolutely loved it and began to ask us for audio drama recordings of the Bible in their own languages. As you know, we have since fulfilled this need many times over—working with partners and local people from around the world, producing hundreds more dramatized recordings in as many languages!
