The One Who Gives Life
“I come from a family of witch doctors and never imagined going to church in my life, but God had a plan!
My grandfather was the biggest witch doctor in our district of Cote d’Ivoire. At his death, my father inherited his charms, which were renowned throughout the neighboring areas. But my father, while not sick, died soon after – despite the power of his charms.
Then I inherited the charms of my grandfather and my father – but with fear in my stomach, because I had noted that the charms didn’t give my father long life.
"I abandoned the charms in order to give my life to Jesus Christ."
It was in this situation of constraint and hesitation when, one night, I found a public place in the village where people were listening to a device [Proclaimer] that spoke in Cebaara. It was Jesus Christ who was speaking in Cebaara. A word in his speech that touched me was from John 14, verse 6, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life.’
This word resounded in my heart and many thoughts crossed my spirit.
I began to tell myself, internally, that if the charms are powerful, they are a transient power because they don’t give life – otherwise my grandfather and father wouldn’t have died. Why not trust in the One who gives life, and true life eternally?
It was at this time that I abandoned the charms in order to give my life to Jesus Christ, even while expecting to be hated and rejected by my community.”
